How to transfer project ownership (HOME ORG) to another organisation
New business unit? When you have created a new business unit (organisation) and need to move running (or closed/terminated) projects to it: open each project → Project settings → scroll to Transfer project ownership (HOME ORG) → choose the new org (or type its short name) → click Transfer HOME ORG. Repeat for each project.
For projects that are running, closed, or terminated, the normal project settings form does not allow changing HOME ORG (to protect data integrity). The Transfer HOME ORG action is the only way to change ownership for those projects.
Who can do it
Only users with permission to manage organisations (administrators) can transfer project ownership. Other users do not see the transfer section on the project settings page.
Steps
- Open the project (e.g. from Projects).
- Go to Project settings.
- Scroll to the section Transfer project ownership (HOME ORG).
This section is shown only for projects that are running, closed, or terminated, and only to administrators. - Choose the new organisation from the dropdown, or enter a new org short name in the text field.
- Click Transfer HOME ORG.
- The change is recorded in the project audit log (e.g.
home_org: OldShort -> NewShort (transfer)).
Note
For projects that are still in planning, request funding, waiting for launch, or not funded, you can change HOME ORG in the normal project settings form above. The transfer action is only for projects that are locked (running, closed, or terminated).
